So how much does wikipedia mean to you?
A bold move or does it cause concern? Recently Jimmy James, founder of Wikipedia posted an appeal for personal donation and not without its critics.
Famously a non profit site and yet one of the most influential on the web in terms of both the wealth of content and the influence it has had spurring on the the user generated content model.
It has been criticized for giving unmoderated or verified information the same footing as ‘real fact’ and there have been cases of people amending entries on themselves their companies or other others in a defamatory way over praising way.
That said I personally take all of that on board when I go to Wikipedia and find the level of information often more accurate and detailed than other sources - on and off line. I can and will always verify further if a fact has to be presented as indisputable - which is something that should be done anyway.
However wikipedia is my first line of enquiry for background information particularly for people and events so I put my money where my mouth is.
